Control valve sealing rings
The vast majority of variable valve timing systems are hydraulic systems. Which means that oil of appropriate quality and pressure is required for their proper operation. This is where the special sealing rings, usually mounted on the camshafts or control valves, play a significant role. They are responsible for supplying the oil to the phase regulators. Their damage or wear signs may result in poor functioning of the regulation system, and in extreme cases, in damaging the very regulators. In many older engines, the rings are made of steel. However, steel often wears down and damages the cooperating elements. This is a known issue with the Volkswagen 2.0 ALT and the 2.0 FSI engines. In the next generations, seals made of Teflon have already been implemented, but here - there again - is a problem with their rapid abrasion. Teflon, while having a low coefficient of friction, also shows a low abrasion resistance in rotational motions.
High durability control valve seal rings
For a long time, MEHENKER has been looking for a suitable solution that would combine low friction, low abrasion and the resistance to high temperatures. In the end, it was possible to come up with the right material for all the requirements stated above. The characteristic blue MEHENKER rings guarantee the safety of the cooperating part and the maximum durability of the seal, ensuring the users’ peace of mind for years.
